England, Scotland & Wales 1980 ** Dover

One of the good things about having a BritRail pass was the freedom to go anywhere we wanted to go. We went down to Dover because the castle there was pretty neat.

England, Scotland & Wales 1980 ** London

In 1980 my roommate Scott and I went on a two week vacation Great Britian (England, Scotland and Wales). We planned the trip for months. We got a hop on a military transport. Almost free if you like flying first class baggage. Hey it got us there. We had mapped our route to take in a circular route so we would wind up back in Mildenhall where we arrived.

We spent three days in London walking around taking in the sites and having a great time.

Machu Picchu 1979

In 1979 I was part of a joint U.S. / South American naval exercise called UNITAS. The year I went was UNITAS XX. I was part of the admiral's staff on board the USS Dewey (DDG 45). We circumnavigated the South American continent and later went to West Africa then back to South America. My most memorable experience was going to Machu Picchu (the lost city of the Incas) in Peru. It is a destination not many people get to see. Here are some of my favorite shots.

Pisa, Italy 1978

While on a deployment to Siginalla, Sicily in 1978 I had the opportunity to visit Pisa. I was very excited because my mother had visited there about 22 years earlier and I had seen pictures of the Leaning Tower. She was not allowed to go all the way to the top at that time. I was able to and got some great shots of the surrounding area from that vantage point. They were having some kind of worker's demonstration that day and as you can see banners were hung all around the tower. They translate to say: Enough with the old methods of government, Resume construction of new factory and similar slogans.

Introduction

My name is Ken and for 24 years I was a photographer in the U.S. Navy. I fell in love with photography at the age of 16 and started shooting and processing my own film (B&W and color slides). While I was in the Navy slide film was easily obtained for “training” purposes. I shot a lot of slides while never owning a slide projector.

I am now in the process of scanning all my slides, and later my negative, so that I can enjoy and share them once again. I haven’t seen some of these images for over 30 years and they are interesting to me and I hope to you.

I was lucky, while in the Navy, to be able to travel and take some interesting photographs around the world. Some of my work is more artsy, as I like the see the design in objects. I will not bore you with every image but I will be posting some of the best I come across. I hope you enjoy them.
